Murders in the Barrowlands
A medium-sized town located on the road between the capitol Du Karmol and the mountain fortress/trade post of Bar Vostel, Mander's Crossing has little claim to fame beyond being an excellent example of how existing in the Barrowlands changes a society. The town itself is both too small to justify resources spent on massive defenses, and too large to easily wall in, so much of the town has been reconstructed (largely by magic users during crusades who sought to make the layout of the town more easily defensible). As a result the town is designed practically, remarkable for a settlement that predates to Crusades, and barricades can easily be erected to protect gaps between the buildings.
The few farms outside the city are less well-defended, but regular guard patrols cover the area. Though such an area cannot effectively be defended during wartime, the military has enough presence to at least keep patrols up in the area, and during the winter farmers generally withdraw to within the town for both safety and convenience.
